Both knowledge organization and digital libraries are experiencing a lot of change because of innovations in artificial intelligence, semantic web, linked data, and other digital technologies. This research examines the trends of the future for knowledge organization systems and digital libraries through a systematic review of literature from 2000 to 2026. The six main themes are: the development of knowledge organization systems, the semantic web and ontological representation, metadata automation using artificial intelligence, smart libraries and Library 5.0, digital preservation and institutional repositories, and innovations like blockchain. The study results indicate that future knowledge organization systems will use a combination of both human-curated vocabularies and machine-based semantic tagging and information processing. Nevertheless, issues related to data quality, bias within algorithms, ethical use of technology, digital preservation, and professional competencies are equally significant issues. As per the findings from the analysis, an architectural model with multiple layers is proposed for consideration that includes data acquisition, knowledge organization, semantic enhancement, linked data interoperability, and access services that cater to users. It is highlighted that any future digital library should have a blend of innovation with human elements and sustainability considerations. The findings of the research are of much importance for scholars and policymakers.
